What is insurance installment plan?

An insurance installment plan divides a policy premium into scheduled payments.

Also called: premium payment plan

Glossary date: March 30, 2026

How it works

Plans may bill monthly or on another schedule. Service fees, automatic payment rules, and due dates can change the total paid and the risk of cancellation.

Example

Instead of paying $840 at once, a customer pays an initial amount and five later installments, each with a small service fee.

Why it matters

Installments can help cash flow, but missed payments can trigger cancellation notices.

What to check on your policy

Write down every due date and fee. Confirm how automatic payments, returned payments, and late payments are handled.
